An exhibition of the works 1994 – 2016 of Andrzej Kowalczyk
Andrzej Kowalczyk celebrated his sixtieth birthday with de closing of his exhibition in Olympia Galeria. He made a performance with his ‘young’ students in front an aged audience. Olympia Galeria is also a meeting place for working and socializing and growing number followers.
The works of Kowalczyk tell their own fairy tale by visual means, about growing up, the drive to create, friendship and love. The exhibition contained drawings from the nineties and was complemented with theater performances and film footages.
Part of the exposition was a “cubic” an archetype form. A cube is the staring point for the development of space. It should be associated with something stable. Kowalczyk is confusion his audience in using the twelve equal sections in various ways. He is a multi media artist from the Kantor school. Actually he was one of his last students. Kantor (1915-1990) is a famous Polish multi media artist; painter, assemblage artist, set designer and theatre director. He was closely related to Oskar Schlemmer with whom he corporated many times.
Note: Schlemmer is a well know restaurant in The Hague that I frequented during my days in the city as a civil servant of ministries
